Winger Mills is hoping for regular start

CLYDE winger Stuart Mills hopes two goal in two games will persuade head coach Stuart Millar he is worthy of a regular start.

Mills came off the bench last week against Albion Rovers to score with his first touch and struck again at the weekend as he replaced the suspended Kevin Finlayson against East Stirlingshire.

Mills said: "It was unfortunate that after a good pre-season I got injured just before the opening league game and was out for a month and since then I have been in and out of the squad.

"But I am happy to have scored twice in two weeks and hopefully this will see me pushing for a regular place in the team."

Mills' goal came after great link-up play between trialist Scott Anson and captain Adam Strachan sent him clear to slip the ball under East Stirling goalkeeper Michael Andrews.

But it was the only bright spark in another wretched performance by the Bully Wee, who threw away the chance to get themselves off the bottom of the league with a sluggish display that was devoid of ideas.

Mills, though, denied there are any problems within the camp and believes one win could turn the situation around.

He said: "It was yet another defeat but I didn't think we played too badly and if we could just get a win then I'm sure things will start to turn around.

"Through the week training is excellent and everyone, both players and management, are brilliant to work with but for some reason we can't seem to put it together on a Saturday.

"I played three games for Hamilton in the SPL and it was unfortunate things didn't work out there but I'm still convinced I made the right decision to come to Broadwood in the summer.

"We go to Berwick this Saturday, which is perhaps not the best place when you've been struggling, but no one can tell me that we don't have good players at this team who aren't capable of taking points of every other team in this division."

East Stirling hadn't scored a league goal since August so it was only to be expected when former Clyde midfielder David Dunn gave them the lead in nine minutes.

Jordan Allan did well to deny Dunn's first shot and then Stephen Maguire's point blank rebound but was stranded at the third attempt as Dunn smashed the ball in.

Alex Walker had to be stretchered off conceding a free-kick that John Neill almost headed into his own net, but Craig Tully, just on for Walker, cleared off the line.

On 21 minutes Mills scored to level matters but parity only lasted 15 minutes as Scott Johnson's flick released Dean Richardson to cross for Kevin Cawley to tap in.

In the second half Clyde had most of the possession but East Stirling were content to let them continually shoot from range with only John Sweeney seriously testing Andrews with a bullet five minutes from time and Mills cutting in from the left a minute later to flash a shot across the face of goal.

However, any hopes of a comeback were firmly put to bed four minutes into injury time as substitute John Stewart saw red for an off-the-ball clash with Paul Hay.
