Off to a winning start

Shettleston Juniors........ 0Kilsyth Rangers.............. 1Stagecoach West of Scotland League Central District First Division

A WIN for Rangers in their opening league game, and a well-deserved one at that.

The margin may have been narrow but in truth Rangers were miles ahead of Shettleston in footballing terms and could have scored three or four.

However it just goes to prove that this league will be highly competitive and no team is to be taken lightly if the aim of promotion in one season is to be achieved.

Rangers took the lead midway through the second half when good work by Barclay and Carr created an opening for FLANNERY to head home at the back post.

Shettleston made a couple of changes and came into the game a bit more, but it was Rangers who continued to make the best openings and really they ought to have had at least another goal.

In the final minutes the home side did make a big effort to salvage the draw, but Rangers held firm.

The only negative aspect of this display was their inability to turn dominance into more goals, which their play deserved.
