Youth section serve up entertaining games

SUNDAY was cold and miserable, and the pitch was wet and muddy, but the youth section at Cumbernauld Rugby Club didn’t let this dampen their spirits as they served up two highly entertaining games of rugby.

In the first, the S1/2 squad welcomed local rivals Waysiders Drumpellier to Auchenkilns and we were entertained with a try fest. At half time it was three tries a piece, with Rutherford and Richardson both having crossed for tries in a highly enjoyable game. The second half saw the larger Waysiders team start to dominate, with their big winger running in four tries in the second half.

It was a highly entertaining game of rugby, but the Waysiders experience showed through in the end. Congratulations to Cumbernauld debutantes Reid, Hall and Blair-Terrak.

The second game was just as entertaining and with almost as many tries scored. Kilmarnock had the better of the first half, going in to the break up three tries to one, but a rousing half time team talk from captain Limbert, galvanised the team and helped to raise the intensity level a couple of notches. And whilst it was end to end stuff, the savage defending from Cumbernauld ensured a clean sheet in the second half, whilst scoring three tries of their own.

A hat-trick of tries for Limbert and one for Wilson, with three conversions for Thomson gave Cumbernauld a winning margin of 26–21.

Next Sunday sees the S1/2s host Alan Glens, whilst the under 15s welcome Cumnock.
