Uddingston newsagent robbed of three figure sum after staff were threatened

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at RS McColl’s in Uddingston’s Main Street on Saturday (January 16)

An unidentified man entered the Main Street premises shop around 5.40pm before threatening staff and making off with a sum of cash in mid three figures. He then ran down the street in a northerly direction,

Police say no weapon was presented and nobody was injured.

The man is described as being around 6ft tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a black beanie hat, a face mask, a puffy black jacket and blue jeans. He spoke with a local accent.

Detective Constable Andrew Fearnside of Lanarkshire CID said: “Nobody was injured in this incident but the staff involved were shaken by their experience.

“Our enquiries are ongoing into this incident and we would urge anyone with information to get in touch, especially anyone who may have been in the shop at the time of the robbery”.

“We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in Uddingston town centre around that time on Saturday and saw anything suspicious.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage or private CCTV.
